RISE with WiSE Summer Experience

RISE with WiSE is a residential summer experience that provides opportunities for rising 11th and 12th grade students to develop their confidence in pursuing STEM careers by participating in hands-on STEM experiences and exploring STEM majors at Iowa State University. We will challenge you to get out of your academic comfort zone while experiencing a week in the life of an Iowa State College WiSE student. All students are welcome.

Audience: Designed for high school women who are going into their junior or senior year.

    Cost of attendance: $300

Financial assistance can be requested within the registration form (cost includes housing, meals, t-shirt, fanny pack, some WiSE/ISU merch, and all on-campus expenses)

Agenda: Throughout the summer experience, students participate in 4-5 hands-on STEM sessions that are presented by faculty, staff, and students. Additional activities include exploring student campus life by doing things such as visiting the ISU Creamery, Cy Bowling, Furman Aquatic Center, and much more! Detailed agenda forthcoming.

    Summer 2024 Tentative Dates:

    • Session 1: July 9-12th, 2024 (29 spots remaining)
    • Session 2: July 16-19th, 2024 (4 spots remaining)

Application: Thank you for your interest in attending the Program for Women in Science and Engineering summer experience RISE with WiSE. Due to limited space, we are asking all interested students to complete an application with the following information: Parent/Guardian information, registrant information, an essay question and letter of recommendation. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions to our WiSE Staff at wise@iastate.edu. After our initial application deadline, we still have spots available (see above). All students who applied for the camp before the deadline (April 19th) will receive registration information shortly. Open spots will be given to students on a first come first serve basis upon successful completion of an application, meaning all items are filled out including the letter of recommendation. The application will remain open until all spots are filled.

I went into it kind of nervous because I wasn’t sure what to expect. I only really went because I knew a friend was going to be there. We got split up a lot which made me nervous at first, but it was actually really cool meeting all these new people. If I had any friends also looking into STEM I would highly recommend this to them.
