"I am proud to be a part of WiSE and have a community of women you can always fall back on. You can find great friends in WiSE that empower each other. They are always there for helpful advice and different perspectives." -current undergraduate student

About the WiSE Transfer Experience

All new incoming transfer students have the option to participate in the WiSE Transfer Experience, which focuses on personal, professional, and leadership development while creating community with other transfer women in STEM. The WiSE Transfer Experience offers a variety of options and you have the opportunity to choose which component(s) are most beneficial to you.

Peer Support

Transfer students have the option to receive individual support from a peer mentor. WiSE transfer peer mentors are former transfer students majoring in STEM. Peer mentors serve as a resource and help with the transition to Iowa State. Additionally, peer mentors host monthly group activities open to all female-identifying transfer students in STEM. Sign up here to receive support from a WiSE transfer peer mentor.

Residential Living Option

Transfer students have the opportunity to live in community with other female-identifying STEM transfer students. The WiSE transfer community is located in Iowa State University-owned apartment complex, Frederiksen Court. To sign up for the residential option, complete the online housing contract using AccessPlus. Select the WiSE Frederiksen Court Option under the learning communities section of the contract.

Community Building & Leadership Development

WiSE transfer peer mentors plan monthly group activities ranging from social events to academic and professional development. Sign up here to receive notifications about upcoming WiSE transfer events.

Academic Support

WiSE partners with the Colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Engineering, Human Sciences, and Liberal Arts and Sciences to support students academically. WiSE students are eligible to receive a free academic planner and tutoring funding for one science, engineering, or math course each semester while enrolled in a STEM major at Iowa State. Stop into the WiSE Office in 218 Carver Hall to receive your academic planner and/or to request tutoring funding.

WiSE offers scholarships to incoming, current and transfer students who are enrolled in STEM curricula at Iowa State. Scholarship criteria, applications, and deadlines are listed on our Scholarships page.
