About Taking the Road Less Traveled

Taking the Road Less Traveled (TRLT) is a one-day conference on the Iowa State campus for middle school and high school girls to learn about STEM fields and how to infuse their passions within a career.

Schedule & Dates

Participants will attend interactive sessions to explore STEM opportunities, hear from professionals and WiSE student speakers, and eat lunch with undergraduate STEM students. 

The conferences are hosted twice in the fall and three times in the spring.

Dates for 2019-2020 Academic Year:

October 31, 2019 (8th grade)
November 7, 2019 (9th/10th grade)
March 26, 2020 (8th grade)
April 9, 2020 (8th grade)
April 16, 2020 (9th/10th grade)

Registration & Cost

Registration will open in August 2019

The cost to attend a conference is $15 per person (students and chaperones) and includes lunch. Students may bring extra money for a t-shirt ($15) or Iowa State souvenirs. 

Scholarships are available for students in need. E-mail Sarah DuBois for more information. 

Volunteer

We need many undergraduate student volunteers throughout the day. A volunteer sign-up link will be posted closer to the conferences.
