About WiSE Scholarships
WiSE scholarships are based on financial need and awarded each academic year to incoming, transfer and current students who are enrolled in STEM majors at Iowa State.
The WiSE Scholarship Application is part of the University Scholarship Application (One App). You will be asked if you would like to apply for the WiSE Scholarship and if you answer yes, you will be directed to the essay question prompt.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Must be majoring or planning to major in an undergraduate STEM field at Iowa State University
- Identify as female (This includes women who are cisgender, trans, of trans experience, etc.)
- Must demonstrate financial need determined by the Office of Financial Aid
Essay Guidelines:
- Must address essay questions
- Must be proofread and spell-checked
- Demonstrate effort and professional communication
One App Tips and Suggestions:
- Click save in your one app application frequently (you will be logged out after 30 minutes of inactivity).
- Type your essays in a word document, then copy and paste it into the One App application rather than typing your essay responses directly into the One App application.
Applications & Deadlines
WiSE First-Year (incoming - direct from high school student) Application deadline is Friday, January 1, 2021
WiSE Transfer (incoming student) Application deadline is Friday, April 16, 2021
WiSE General (current student) Application deadline is Friday, March 5, 2021
Olga Margaret Thompson Application deadline is Friday, March 5, 2021*
*There will be an additional scholarship question for students who wish to apply for the Olga Margaret Thompson Scholarship. Eligibility includes:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Identify as female (This includes women who are cisgender, trans, of trans experience, etc.)
- Demonstrated financial need (FAFSA)
- Junior or Senior Level Classification for the 2020-2021 academic year
- Majoring in Physical Sciences (engineering, math, computer science, physics)
