Cara Petrie

Major: Chemical Engineering
Hometown: Shawnee, Kansas

Internships/research opportunities/co-ops:

I had an internship at Arizona Public Service in Phoenix, Arizona last summer.? It was such a great experience being able to put my class work to use in a professional environment.? My eleven weeks there taught me so much about working in industry after graduation.? I would encourage everyone to take advantage of internship opportunities because they are a great way to learn about what type of industry you want to work in as well as being a great resume builder!

Other activities on Campus:

President-Elect for the Society of Women Engineers

Why are you involved in PWSE/what has it provided for you:

WiSE has provided me with the confidence and professionalism I need to succeed not only in my classes but also in my student organizations and classes.?

Why did you choose your major:

I chose Chemical Engineering because I fell in love with math and science in high school.? I enjoy the challenge and frustration of working on a problem for hours until it is finally done right.? Chemical Engineering was the perfect blend of math and science all rolled into one

Advice to new ISU students??

My advice to new ISU students is to forget that they are a freshman.? Walk around campus with your head held high.? Be confident enough to apply for leadership positions, ask questions, and make friends with the person next to you in class.? Your adventure starts now, not when you have been on campus for a semester or two, so go out and make the most of it!
